Missy's Story
Missy - Digby's Mother

Hi Everyone,

This is Missy and like her son Digby, she is a wired haired terrier and poodle. Missy lived a long and happy life with me, and I will always hold her dear to my heart. She was my very first house dog, which makes her my dearest at heart. And I'll never forget the day I went to look at the litter of puppies she was in.

There were four puppies all together and there was this cute little guy that was so curly that I wanted. In fact, I wanted him so bad that I could hardly stand it. But he would have nothing to do with me no matter what I tried. Yet, Missy kept coming to me time after time. In reality, she picked me and so I took her home to love forever.

These people who had Missy lived across the road from my husband's nephew, and it was his nephew that told us about them. The nephew's dog was wired hear terrier and was the father to these puppies. Their mother was poodle through and through. Due to the fact that these people couldn't afford to feed the puppies, Missy was a bit on the poor side. But not so that I had any trouble building her up once I got her home.

It was just a few weeks and she was on her way to making one of the best dogs I'd ever have in my life. She learned quickly and loved every minute of it. In no time, I had her doing actually what she was told with no problem. By the time she was a year old, she was trained and ready for anything, including the biggest test of all. A trip to the store with me, and she did wonderfully. Missy did everything so right that all I could do was praise her all the way home.

Missy had always been very protective of me and I was the same way with her. It seemed from the start, that she had picked me and nobody else could get her to do as I could much of the time. We were two peas in a pod and it was obvious to most people who she preferred whenever my husband was present. She weighted only 5 pounds, but she was a remarkable little dog.

She hated her bath, but let me going swimming and take her with me to the beach, and she would jump into the water just because I was in it. The best thing to this, is that nobody seemed to be able catch her no matter what they tried. I had total strangers try, and she'd zip by them with ease. She'd head straight for me and never get touched by anyone in the process.

Yep, Missy was one of the best dogs I've ever had in my life. And she loved me beyond all reason and I loved her in the same way. There wasn't anything that little girl wouldn't do for me and it was returned to her. I will never forget my first baby girl for as long as I live. She picked me and I have always been thankful that she did, because we made the best team in the world as far as dog and human relationships go. I wouldn't have traded that remarkable little dog for anything and she knew it. And she felt the same way about me and I knew it. I may never have that close and special relationship again with a dog, but I can sincerely say that I love her with all my heart.

Today, she's gone to dog heaven and I think of her often. Though I miss her to this day, I will never forget the joy she brought to my heart. May Missy rest it peace.
