Designed by: Anita Eberline

This is the picture of the first arthritics mitten created. And they work...I'm not in as much pain as I was and I love them. They are so easy to make and use.

Materials Needed:
1 pair of size 4 knitting needles.
7 oz. skein of Worsted weight yarn.
2 stitch holders.
1 yarn needle for sewing seams when mitten is completed.

This pattern is adult mittens who may have arthritic pain and discomfort. The pattern is below:

Work in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 2 1/2"(2 1/2, 3").

Thumb Gore: Row 1: K 15 (17, 19) sts, place a marker on needle, inc 1 st in next st, inc 1 st in next st, for thumb gore.
Row 2: Slipping markers as you work, P across.
Row 3: K to first marker, slip marker, inc 1 st in next st, sl marker, k remaining sts.
Repeat last 2 rows until there are 10 (10, 12) sts between markers.
Row 4: P across.
On a K row, k to first marker, remove marker and place these sts on a stitch holder. K next 9 (9, 12) sts, inc 1 st in next st, remove marker, pace remaining 15 (17, 19) sts on another stitch holder. Turn and P across.

Thumb: Next Row: K 10 (10, 12) sts, inc 1 st in next st. Turn. Continue in Knitting in stockinette stitch over the 12 (12, 14) sts for 6 rows, end with a P row.

Bind off thumb sts and sew seam.

Hand: Slip sts from stitch holders onto a size 4 Needle. With wrong side facing, attach yarn to first st.
Row 1: P 15 (17, 19) sts, cast on 2 sts across the 2 cast-on sts at base of thumb, p 15 (17, 19) sts. Continue knitting in stockinette st over the 32 (36, 40) sts until length from - Palm Size Only.
For All Sizes: There 30 (32, 38) sts on needle. Turn. P *across. Bind off on next row and sew seams using the length of yarn left from cutting it after finishing knitting.

To Shape Tip: Row 1: (K 2 tog, K 3 (4, 5) sts, place marker on needle) 7 (6, 6) times; K 2 tog, K 3 (4, 5) sts.
Row 2: slip marker, on needle 7 (6, 6) times; K 2 tog, K 3 (4, 5) sts.
Next: Repeat the last 2 rows alternately 1 (1, 2) more times.
Next Row: Removing markers, P across. Last Row: *K 2 tog. Repeat from * across.
Break off, leaving a 14" end. With end, sew mitten seam.
Make another mitten in the same way.

Make sure you sew all seams especially the Thumb Gore seam.
They will fit a little tighter than most normal mittens. As they are meant to help the pain and discomfort of arthritics in the hands. Thank you for taking an interest in my yarn projects section.
